Tell ALL Tuesdays:: Silke Powers

Good morning everyone,

sorry for posting this so late in the day...I have been rushing around getting little Miss A ready for her first day back at school which starts at 11.30am this morning. She starts Senior Kindergarten.

Today we're introducing you to a very dear and positive blogger AND brilliant artist friend, Silke...who I hope to meet one day along our Life Journey.

Enjoy!

SILKE POWERS::
Tell us a little about the Town you live in... & have you always lived there?

Daniel and I live in Savannah, GA, which is a gorgeous old town in the southern United States. Many of the original houses and buildings have been preserved and restored, and the whole downtown is on the National Historic Registry. When we moved here three years ago, we decided that we’d like to live between Savannah and the beach, which has been perfect for us!

Before we came to Savannah, we lived in New Mexico, Michigan, California, Germany and Texas. We’ve always loved exploring areas that are new to us, and, most of all, meeting new friends wherever we go.

How structured is your day usually?

Not very structured, really. Most of my structure comes from Daniel’s teaching schedule. During the summer, when it’s very hot and humid here, I like to have our dog Winslow walked and the garden watered by 7:30. After that, I usually get my chores done around the house and then go to my studio to paint! It’s never really the same from one day to the next, which is good, because I love variety!

If you could move anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?

For right now, I am perfectly happy where we are. However, if I could split myself in several pieces, I wouldn’t mind also living in the south western US, in a cottage in Ireland on the shore, in the south of France, and a few other places that call to me.

Are you a cat or dog person?

Both – we have a very sassy cat, Ramses, who moved with us from Albuquerque. He loves the heat here in the south and spends most of the day outside. Our sweet dog, Winslow, is a beautiful mix we got here at the shelter. He is three years old now and it feels like he’s lived with us forever! Ramses and Winslow are the best of friends!

What did you do today?

Today (Sunday) was a lazy day. I got up and went straight to my studio and came up with four sketches for a commission I am working on. Daniel took Winslow for a walk by the river. I then made waffles for us for breakfast, got on the computer and checked on all the blogs I like to visit, ran some errands with Daniel, shelled a bowl of lima beans from our garden, had lunch, took a nap … you get the picture.

Are you a breakfast, lunch or dinner girl?

You are joking, right? I am a breakfast, lunch, AND dinner girl. Throw in a couple of snacks, and I am truly happy!!

If you had 6 friends over for Dinner what would you make for them?

I think we’d make Daniel’s famous barbecued chicken with the most wonderful Moroccan sweet potato salad I recently found a recipe for and maybe throw in a green salad as well. For dessert, a peach pie (that only because there’s one in the oven right now and it smells heavenly) with vanilla ice cream. Did I mention I love dessert?!

How old were you when you knew you were on the right path in your Life?

Oh, boy, that’s a hard one. I have known for a long time (since I was in my early 30’s) that I was on the right general path, but there was always something still missing. Five months ago, I finally started painting and suddenly it all feels “right” to me. I’m now 43.

Who /what drove & inspired your love to create?

Most definitely my husband, Daniel, who is not only an amazing illustrator, but just as creative in anything he does whether it’s designing our garden or putting together his aquarium!

Tell us something not too many people know about you.

I once got to meet Prince Charles at a private function in London.

Shoe choice::flats or heels?

Flats most of the time since I am rather tall. But I have some heels that I wear on occasion…every girl needs some nice heels to wear sometime!

What was the last book you read?

Ok, I’d love for it to be something profound, but alas the last book I read was one of Janet Evanovich’s mysteries in the Stephanie Plum series. They are incredibly entertaining to me, having me laugh out loud constantly!

What advice would you give others just starting out?

Just get started somewhere you feel comfortable and then go with it and allow the creative process to carry you forward! Oh, and tell that critic in your head to take a vacation!

Name 5 blogs you love visiting, and tell us why.

Well, there is your blog, of course, which is always a great source of joy and inspiration! For my list of five, I am going to concentrate on artistic blogs and try to give you a good variety:

Lilylovekin Tails – Lorrie started blogging around the same time I did and makes gorgeous mixed media pieces. She also takes great photos and writes from the heart!

Heavenleigh Art – Julie-Ann’s paintings just touch my heart and inspire me immensely. She also features great videos demonstrating her techniques and her writing is open and honest.

Put a Little Magic in Your Life – Renate, a fellow German, makes the most gorgeous jewelry! I swear some of her pieces are fairy-inspired. She also takes beautiful photos and has a way with words!

Den Lille Lade – Dorthe is a fabulous mixed media artist in Denmark. She makes the most enchanted dolls and fairies and most incredible mixed media pieces. Whenever I visit her blog I feel myself transported to a different time and place.

SparkleMirror KilnFired Art – David designed and created the most beautiful art tiles. On his blog you get to follow his creations from conception to prep work to the finished product, which is inspiring all around.

Thank you Silke for taking part in our Tuesday Tell Alls...I loved getting to know you a little better...and would LOVE to chat one day about your encounter with Prince Charles...how amazing is that!
Please take a little moment and head over to say hi to Silke at her blog Metamorphosis HERE
Have a great Day everyone...I'll be back later today to show you a couple of commissions which I finished this weekend...
