do YOU remember ?

your childhood memories?...I do...from the age of 3...walking in parks, visiting grandparents, playing with my sister and baby brother...riding horses from the age of 6 and climbing trees...we never had a tree house, but our friends did...
did you have one of these? I think they're in the shops again....I can't for the Life of me remember the name though...and it's bee bugging me.
Any one remember?
What were your childhood memories made up of?
Have a lovely Wednesday.

I can't recall the name, but my little brother had one...back then I was thin enough to bounce on it too!! LOL

My childhood memories were very much like yours as far as family, but out here in the desert of West Texas, we didn't have many trees at the time, but we climbed the foothills of the Franklin Mountains...lots of fossils and meteor remnants and caves to explore, building a fort at the top of one of those foothills, (now a strip shopping centre)going under the street to the other side and catching tadpoles in the rock tanks when it rained and checking out the cemetery in Smelter Town. At night, the neighborhood kids would meet under our big tree in our front yard and just talk...wait for the coyotes to come down from the mountain in search of an easy trash can meal...they are so timid, we'd just holler at them and they'd run away.

That was desert living in the Southwest as kids. Too bad the kids today can't do that. The foothills of the Franklin are scattered with extravagant homes of the very rich, the coyotes, rattlesnakes and mountain lions are gone, but some African type deer lives up there...they were let go into the mountains several years ago and have been told they're thriving. The cave underneath the major street is now barred up due to the fact it's just too dangerous to go through since it's now used by illegal immigrants coming into this country from Mexico, bandits and drug types.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to live back when our city was still young and there was no over development of our mountain and desert.

Hmm- I know what it is but Hippity Hops doesn't sound familiar either-I'll have to try and find the answer now :)
I remember way back to, some things, even before age 2. Lots of people I know can't remember too much before 8 or so....
I'll let you know if I find another name for that toy!

Hi again-
the curiosity was getting to me so I searched online for the name -could it have been one of these? I took this from wikipedia:...
space hopper, also known as a skippyball, kangaroo ball, bouncer, hoppity hop, or hop ball...
I think we might've called it kangaroo ball.

I think we did call it a Space Hopper...and yes, they had smiley faces on them...although ours maybe not as my mum being resourceful always found these things at Bazaars, boot sales or charity shops...
I love the name Hippity Hops...
Geogina: your childhood sounded fun and care free...we definitely can't do that now...let our kids roam til night!
Shame...but we know too much.

hi there char......all my happiest memories were with my brothers and sisters. there are 5 of us - i'm the middle child...always wanted everyone to be happy. we played mostly outdoors. we lived in a very small town of less than 1000 people, so we had alot of freedom to roam about for the entire day. this weekend i'm going camping with my brothers and sisters. we STILL play together, even as grown ups!

OMG, I just read your comment, Char - jump elastics! I hadn't thought about those in years and we played with those all the time! I was really good at it, too, because I was all legs... And I did have one of those things that you show in your little illustration - I only know the German name for it though... What I remember most of my early childhood is playing, lots of playing with my friends, family and even by myself. It was a charmed time... Oh, what a wonderful walk down memory lane! Thank you!! Love, Silke

You should take a look at my post for today. I just happened to write about childhood play too. I think those bouncy things were called Kangaroo balls. Maybe? I didn't have one, but my cousin did and I always played with hers.

I didn't know the name of the "bouncy balls," - thanks Robin:). What fun. I love the drawings, really taking me back to some special places. No tree house, but definitely hiding places! I can still remember the day my sister found me in my "secret" spot. The air went out of the Hippity hop right then and there.

Your blog is beautiful.
I never had one of these - we would go across the road to play with the neighbor's - they also had trampolines and other fantastic toys!!! I also always wanted a chocolate flavour hoola hoop. They also came in strawberry and lime and I am sure other flavours. Lovin' your art. Thanks for the memories!
