I haven't worked in pastels ...um,since 1997...I have had these GORGEOUS patels since my 18th birthday...they have travelled to Spain and back to the Uk...then over here to Canada with me...they are treasures to me...they connect me to create what I love to do.
I am now off to see what you have been up to...
Have a wonderful week.(if you don't come back to visit)
I will be back with weekend pics, and show you how these 2 look framed.

These are so beautiful, Char! Bravo!
Nice work! You're getting me psyched to teach my upcoming unit on pastels in a materials-and-techniques class. Thanks!
Oh my goodness! You are so so talented. These portraits are beautiful. Pastels scare me to death and I could never make anything that I ever liked with them. And you created these after all these years not working with them.
Wow!
Have a good day.

Pastels. Yes I am familiar with them. They are such a lot of fun to work with, and sure make a bit of a mess with excess pastel dust when you are done. And one ends up with very grubby fingers!
I do have a 'secret' to using them...though it may not be a secret to you. I find that if I have a plastic container (an old icecream container works for me)with an inch or two of plain flour in it...and keep the colours that I am using in it, it keeps them lovely and clean as well as my fingers. Sounds funny, but it really does work. Oh, and for sharp clean edges...a sheet of white paper. Cut the paper into various shapes, to be used to cover areas that I don't want to touch, that way I can work right up to the very edge without smudging the bits that I want to leave out.
You have done a wonderful job on yuor portraits, by the way.
Glad you mother is recovering so well from her op.
Wow, It's amazing to see the way the portraits develop, and how the final detaisl bring them to life!
These are amazing! I'm sure the owner will be very happy!

Dear Char, you are such a talented artist , they look so real and lively....bravo!
Pastels are a medium that I admire and find fascinating. ANd out of my league. Taking little sticks of powdery colors and the talent that you have to make such beautiful art is truly wonderful. Just lovely. I loved how you photographed a close up with the loose podwer still on the artwork.
A delightful blogsite that I find pleasing to visit.
