Sticking to my guns...

is not always that easy...our girls are 3 and 5...both of them are happy, giggly and active little girls...we're extremely fortunate to have such healthy children.
I posted this photo because it's a reminder to myself that perhaps sometimes I need to lighten up...our Life here is very scheduled because I have work to do in the evening and like to get them settled by a certain time...giving me time to paint.
Some may feel this is selfish...but it's for my sanity too.
Today was such a full day and when neither of them listened this evening, they missed out on getting their bedtime books read. I really hate to take away such a wonderful time of the day, and tried hard to express this sadness...but they're testing me everyday, and now that Jordan is more talkative, she tries her hardest to get out of a situation...or try to change it.
I find the only way our girls learn respect for our wishes and words is to take something they enjoy away from them...I'm sure I felt more loss and guilt from this than they did...and they were so tired, that they probably fell straight asleep...(see, I'm trying to make myself feel better:-)

Am I too hard on them?

no, you're not being too hard on them. it's what my brother and sil do with my very precocious niece. I think children respect boundaries.

You are absolutely not too hard on them. Its so hard to discipline when we love these beautiful little creatures..but when they turn into rascals, its time to nip it in the bud.

Setting boundaries for children teaches them respect and manners.
A little bit of heartache/guilt now will save you years of it in the future.

That pic is wonderful, I can almost hear their laughter echoing in my head. They are adorable.

i can't tell you how many times i ask myself that very same question! but NOPE i don't feel you are too hard...i feel kids need structure, discipline, and the understanding of consequence. and of course with all of that they need tons of love, hugs and kisses too. but it is up to us as parents to set the precedence!

your girls are adorable! I would have a hard time 'sticking to my guns' with those sweet faces but I agree that you did what needed to be done. they will grow to appreciate you for teaching them to be mindful and considerate people
