The Mamas and Chicks Show...TODAY!

I will be here today at the Mamas and Chicks Show...I would take my laptop with me and blog throughout the day...BUT...because I am one of the organisers of this fun shopping day...whatever "quiet" lulls the day may have...those are the times when I need to be chatting to our 60+ vendors.
PRAYING that everyone comes out to SHOP...and isn't sleeping after getting up at a crazy hour over here to watch the Royal Wedding today.

Check out our list of exhibitors on our website HERE. MOST ship worldwide and have online stores!

I'll tell you ALL how it went at the weekend...then next week...we're back into swing with a GIVEAWAY.(I know it's been a while!)

Here's to hoping tomorrow is a smooth and successful day for Prince Will and Kate too.

HAPPY Easter WEEKEND!

They look so raw in their "not finished" state...I'll be able to paint them tonight as they're dry now finally...

I admit...I made a HUGE "whoopsy" and made my Company Stamp this morning "BACKWARDS"...because as we all know...to make a Type Stamp...you HAVE to write the words backwards!!! That's when you know you're pushing the envelope...burning the candle at both ends...we've all been there...and I'm there right now!
I finished 130 gift cards for our Mamas and Chicks Show this morning...I've been working on them for the past 3 days...if they don't sell...they'll be in my Esty Shop next week.I'll be selling them in packs of 5.

So ... no one guessed what the Pins were in Thursday's post... oh...and I won't be giving it away quite yet!

Back to making my STAMP the RIGHT way...

HAPPY Easter Weekend everyone...whatever it may mean to you...enjoy it!!!
No need to explain what I'm up to...I think we ALL know!

one week to go...

my head is spinning...my kids are tired of me always crafting for the Mamas and Chicks Show...I am lacking many hours of sleep...but,we all know this is what happens before a big Show like this...right?
These are my "Surprise pins"...I like to always bring something new to the Show each year. Sorry readers...you'll see them on Saturday the 30th in my Etsy store if there are any left!!!

Can you guess what they are?

I'm pleased with my new stamps...I've never sold stamps from my table...so this is new too for all our Shoppers.
I have 29 in my "series 1" of stamps which I'll take to the Show next Friday...and I know they'll be an on-going project as it really is a very calming and therapeutic craft.

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter Weekend...thanks for stopping by and to all of you who leave a little hello always...thank you!
I'll be back on Tuesday with more finished projects!

door to door...

Hello, I know I usually do a "Wordeless Wednesday" post on Wednesdays...but I really wanted to show you how this little birdie flew all the way to a house where it has found it's new home.

Do you remember the Stamp I made?
Well LOOK...now it's being wrapped around MANY wonderful soaps.
Tara from On a Branch blogged about her Soaps and the packaging...I think packaging is SO important...and I really need to work on this a little more...aren't they beautiful!
 Good enough to eat!!
IF you live in the GTA and want to make a trip to Burlington this Saturday Tara is at a craft fair!(Saturday, April 16, 10-4, at Port Nelson Church, 3132 South Drive, the Burlington Crafters Craft Show)

Go and say hello...from me too as I am not able to make it out there...
Maybe in the Fall she'll be at out Mamas and Chicks Show selling her knits and soaps!

**PLEASE NOTE**
I am taking a wee blog break...I won't disappear completely as I will be showing pictures of what I am up to...BUT I may not be checking in daily.
Our Mamas and Chicks Show is in 2 weeks time...and I need to focus  100% on finishing products for my Blueshine Art table.

I have added NEW PRINTS to my ETSY shop...I have one more to add this morning...and then will start placing more "stamps" up there...today is not great for photos though...Very dreary...grey and wet.

HAVE a wonderful day...
Happy doing what you do...

A HOW TO on SQUARE FOOT Gardening.

SAVE money...SAVE water...SAVE energy.

Hi, I know I was going to catch up with you all this weekend...but our Mamas and Chicks Show is coming up(April 29th) and I am settling questions to 60 vendors all day long...so it's taking MUCH of my desired time to blog, create and visit your Worlds...

ANYWAY...I am now here and am going to tell you about the Square Ft Gardening seminar which I went to last week.
It was GREAT...we learnt that you basically can grow a garden in 20% of the space of a regular Veggie garden.
That means you need 20% of the water! and 20% of the energy! AND it will yield 3 harvests!!!

Square ft Garden example from HERE

I took notes(very messy ones)...but the seminar was only one hour in length...and I think a lot was crammed in...which is why the lady giving the seminar handed us a sheet of paper at the end with ALL the info on which she'd just discussed...

SO...The 10 basics of Square ft Gardening are :
  1. LAYOUT - Arrange your garden in squares, not rows (as shown above). Lay it out 4' by 4' areas.
  2. BOXES - Build boxes to hold new soil mix above ground - only 6" deep.(lay weed barrier under boxes)
  3. AISLES - Space boxes 3' apart to form walking aisles.
  4. SOIL - Fill boxes with special mix : 1/3compost(made from many different ingredients),1/3 peat moss,1/3 coarse vermiculite. No need to use existing soil.
  5. GRID - Make a square ft grid for the top of each box to organise the garden for planting.
  6. CARE - Never walk on the growing soil. Tend your garden from the aisles. Few, if any, weeds sprout and are easily pulled with fingers. Soil stays loose and friable. Easy to protect from weather.
  7. SELECT - Plant different flowers, vegetables, or herb crop in each square ft,using spacing of 1,4,9,16(show's in diagram below). Crop rotation happens naturally.
  8. PLANT - Conserve seeds. Plant only what you will use during each season. NO waste.
  9. WATER - Idealy water by hand from a bucket of Sun -warmed water (hose or drip system ok)
  10. HARVEST - When you finish harvesting a square ft,add compost to replenish nutrients and re-plant with a new and different crop.

Spacing Chart from HERE

LOCATION

You must try and pick a spot where your garden will get at least between
6 and 9 hours of Sun a day...
Stay clear of trees and shrubs as roots and shade may interfere.
Have your Garden close to you house for convienience.
Your Existing soil is NOT important as you won't be usiing it.
And it mustn't be in an area which will puddle after rain-fall.

The MIX.
SOIL - Fill boxes with special mix :
1/3compost(made from many different ingredients),
1/3 peat moss,
1/3 coarse vermiculite. No need to use existing soil.
I've been reading that people think there's NOT enough compost and too much Peat...which means that the water and moisture levels are low and the soil feels dry...so you could up the proportions of compost. I guess it really depends on WHERE in the World you live.

Grid made from wood slats.

SEEDING
What is stressed that when planting your seeds you put a pinch of seeds in the hole you make and when they start shooting you just snip the top of all but one in that group.
Flowers do really well amongst the squares of vegetables...and what could be better than fresh flowers in your house.
Refer to the spacing chart above for how many of which vegetables should be growing in each square depending on their size.

Look at the yield you can get. Phot from HERE
All in all, I think this is the way I may be going...we don't have an area too large where we can have veggies which will get the rays of the Sun all day...and I would LOVE to give our girls a couple of grid squares which they choose what they would like to gtow...and take care of.
I am hoping to add this mix to baskets for the front of the house and grow lavender and herbs.
These grid boxes don't have to be just the regular 4x4ft beds...you can stack them...make them 2x6...or an L shape...
The Deck could have individual 1x1 ft containers..

Have you ever dabbled in Mel Bartholomew's Square Ft Gardening?
Here's a little Video by Mel himself!
and this one:
BUT there are also many websites to check in to like THIS ONE.

I hope you've understood my babble...

I'm looking forward to getting started.
NOW we have Spring happening here in Canada...we can get on with planting.

HAPPY DAYS...

I love them!

HAPPY FRIDAY!! My Postcards arrived yesterday from VistaPrint...have you used them before?
The quality is really very good, I opted for the gloss finish on the front...and you can upload ANY image.
One year for our Mamas and Chicks Show I made it look like a postcard at the back so people could actually use it AS a postcard...I may order some more like that!
I have a link on the right if you're looking to order anything from there...
These postcards only cost me $12 for 250 plus shipping...and I know shipping can be pricey...but when you think of how much Postcards usually cost! It's a steal!

I have a busy day today...but sometime this weekend...I will be telling you all about the Square Foot Gardening seminar I went to last night.VERY INTERESTING!!! Do you yield 3 harvests from your garden a year?
Have any of you tried square foot gardening?

AND...I will be featured over at Earth Mama this weekend with a GIVEAWAY of some of my Once Upon a Time prints...when? I am not sure...but I will keep you informed!

Have a glorious weekend!
Spring is finally here in Canada!

projects in progress...

Hello THURSDAY...how did you creep up on us AGAIN???
So I know I keep showing you all my beginnings of projects and sometimes they don't always get finished...but I think this is because if I don't start them they will vanish from thought.
I do sketch them down, but rarely will I return to my sketchbooks to look for ideas...it's a NOW or never kind of thing...kind of like the saying "if you can't remember what you were going to say...it can't have been THAT important"...well, I feel the same way about these projects...if I never start them...they obviously weren't important enough for me to continue...
These are 2 projects which I am working on for our Mamas and Chicks Show coming up in 3 weeks time...I'm making some Lavender Sleep Pillows...and the large(14") hoop is for a personal project I would like to try ... I'm REALLY excited about this one.
 The yarn was on sale for $1 a ball...THANK YOU...yes, I'll take 6!

And I am RE-cycling these canvases for the Deer ART I am painting for the Health Centre I mentioned earlier in the week.

I have to design some packages for my stamps...paint some pins...make some patches...finish some cards...
lol...I'm tired just thinking about it ...

WHAT are you up to?
Please do tell...

HUGS and a Happy Thursday!

The drawings above are for a series of canvases which I'm painting for a friend's Natural Health Centre in Toronto called Pure Health...she hosts Artists work on her walls...

We're all feeling a little under the weather here...probably not enough fresh air...(I can hear you Mum!!!) So today will be a quiet day, painting, drawing, lego building with the girls. Miss A sounds like a Seal with her cough...and she can't stomach much these past couple of days...
WHEN will Spring arrive here?

A collaboration...

 with our girls...
On Friday Miss J and I walked up to the school to pick Miss A up...all the way home..."what are we going to do?...it's your Birthday...we have to do something fun!!"
so out came the paper...colours and we collaborated in this picture...rotating every 15 minutes...for about an hour and a half. We chatted, and commented on what we liked about each other's drawing...it was perfect...really perfect.

It's not easy getting a shot of us together!!
This was #7 of 20!!!

Mr R came home...said "get ready...we're going out" (it was a surprise)...so before we left we had that fabulous cake made by Bridget, and then headed over to a Sushi restaurant...very close by.YUM!

We were 21 in total...it's always lovely to see everyone!!!
Thanks for all the Birthday wishes...

What did you get up to this weekend??

Have a wonderful Monday...I'll be passing by to say hello today.
