ROYAL hand carved stamps..

Finally 2 of my **ROYAL hand carved stamps** are in my Etsy Shop...I thought I would make a British one to honour the Royal Wedding which is happening on the 29th of April...same day as our Mamas and Chicks Show!!!
Why does it take me SO long to update my shop??

It's SNOWING here again!!!
BUT...I really don't mind anymore....I know Summer will soon be here ... tomorrow is my Birthday so I'll be making my Mum's special Cake this evening with the girls...it's "THE" Birthday cake that we all ask for when it's our Birthdays...but because I live here and my Mum is in the UK...she shared the recipe with me so I can make it for myself...lol...

I think the girls are MORE excited than I am about my Birthday...and I LOVE Birthdays...but there is a buzzing about them...I'm taking them out for lunch tomorrow.
My Library ladies are making me lunch today...I love being cooked for...who doesn't!!!

Anyway...I should go...please go take a peek at my new stamps...I would appreciate your feedback :-)

HUGS to you all.

Gro your own!

Thanks so much to lovethegarden who sent me this fab herb planter and feed so that I can grow my own herbs, a really good idea for those of you who may not have the space to grow in a garden but want fresh herbs for cooking, the herbs can grow straight from the bag or just in the little pot! Apparently using the feed my herbs will grow twice as big, maybe it will work better than talking to the plants! I'll keep you updated with their progress!

Another big thing that was supposed to be going on this week at Jack and Beth school was a visit from the Gruffalo (a visiting theatre production)! Sadly at the last hour they cancelled due to illness and the teachers put on a great show for all the parents who were coming to watch by creating a Gruffalo treasure hunt for footprints, Gruffalo treasure and they had to close their eyes to listen for all the animals from the book that were hiding in the woods of the school playground. The children loved it and had so much fun they didn't mind that their event had been cancelled which was great. Jack was very sweet, helping Beth find her treasure, it was lovely to see what a caring big brother he is to her. Now I'm off to plant up those chives! Fabulous set painting Char, they will love performing with that backdrop I'm sure!

**COMPLETED**...Alice in Wonderland.

 From the sketch....(3 weeks ago)...
to the painting...(today)...

Thanks for passing by again and for ALL your encouraging words...I'm happy to be finished...but LOVED painting it...thank you B for helping!
My time was 100% a donation to the school...I understand that some may frown upon this...but I'm sure this will lead to other possibilities...(I'm hoping:-)

If you've arrived at our Blog today and it's the first time seeing the set design I've just finished...go and see the different steps of the Alice painting right from the beginning HERE and middle HERE...

Until tomorrow...

HAPPY MONDAY...I am about to head out to paint some more up at the school...thank you for all your very lovely comments...I am doing what I love to do...and realize this is like winning the lottery EVERY day!
On Friday, a sweet lady from "On a Branch" contacted me to ask about a custom logo for her handmade soaps which she'll be packaging soon...and then placing in her Etsy Shop.(she has beautiful knits there right now)
So...I sketched out some designs....(above)

and this little guy on his branch was the design she chose...she has full commercial rights over the image...and hope this little birdie will be very happy being shipped World Wide with such wonderful smelling soaps.
Custom orders really are very exciting as you try to capture what the client/customer wants...thanks T!

Did you have a good weekend?
Anything NEW in your Life right now?

HUGS until tomorrow...(this is not ALL that is new...but you'll have to come back to see my wee surprise.)(hee hee)

making me happy...

Good-day to you all...and really, although we had more snow and it really does feel like the middle of January again...today is a GLORIOUS day!
Whenever I receive the Green Bean zine in my mailbox...I am fortunate to receive joy, smiles and a great read as well. Thanks Katie! Your work is awesome!
This edition is all BUNNY related...I can't wait for her special issue of "Ba Ba Black Sheep" to come out...I have a thing for sheep...all cuddly and bouncy.
UPDATE:: It's OUT and I just bought one!!!
Did I ever tell you I had a pet sheep when I was young? Actually my sister and brother did too...I think my parents thought it was a great gift as they really wanted sheep...so why not let us think they were for us!!! Ha ha...mine was called Jamima...she was cute until she started chasing me around the field and head butting me from behind. They're quite forceful when they want to be! I was only 8 years old...and little lambs grow up pretty fast.

Another VERY sweet write up about "moi" by one special lady who has purchased and commissioned pieces from me in the past...you can read what she says HERE. (blush blush)
If the world was full of "Kims" we'd never be at war!

Have a grande day...snow,sun and ALL...
hugs

Hello

Hello, as you can see I'm still experimenting...I think I get the whole technique...I'm working on quite a small format each time only because I don't have an ink roller or an ink pad which is very large...so these stamps of our girls are 2x2 inches. Miss J is on the left...and Miss A on the right.

Well...today has been busy...so I can't stay long...tomorrow I start the Alice back-drop and we're expecting 10cm of snow!!! I KNOW!!!! enough already!

Hugs to you all, and truly thanks for passing by!!!

Monday's Mentions...and I'm stamping.

Sometimes trying new art forms can free one's mind.
I'm translating a few old sketches into stamps. I think I need MUCH more practice...but am loving the feel of the rubber...it's like putty!
This is my signature...I have had it since I was 16...or there abouts.
It's on every painting/ drawing that I have ever done...so this was the first stamp I made.
Aren't the greys amazing? I didn't edit the photo other than crop it...
Here`s the finished stamp...I have to place it on something ridged...as the rubber is quite soft and flexible.

I know the girls are going to have fun with all the stamps I make.
Stay tuned for MORE to come...

but until then...it's MONDAY MENTIONS::
you`re going to want to check out THESE stamps HERE and HERE and Geninne has a few posts on "How to" right HERE...

If you have ever posted about "stamping" on your blog...please comment with a link to the post...

I'm off to STAMP some more...

Goodbye Winter...HELLO Spring!

I really must start by saying HURRAH...SPRING is HERE!!!!
Although from my pictures below...we really don't seem to be getting much "Spring" as of yet!
Those where taken from our walk the other day...crisp,white snow...and high contrasting  silhouettes.
Here's a family portrait I finished before the weekend. I'm really excited about being able to schedule Photo sessions in my new/future studio....this way I'll be able to use better lighting and gain better contrasts. Trust me, I appreciate the commissions I received...but trying to create depth from a flat image, can sometimes be a challenge.
I love the little Baby...she really is JUST as bright eyed as in the picture!

SO happy to be in Spring....but sad to loose all these shadows and bright days, snowflakes and snowmen.

What will you miss about Winter??

So...we say finally..."Goodbye Winter"...and HELLO Spring!
I will be starting my seedlings soon...herbs, tomatoes,peppers...what are you growing this year?

Until tomorrow's Monday Mentions...bon nuit...

A weekend of friendship ahead...

I am very excited, tomorrow morning after we've thrown off our pyjamas, dressed and leapt in the car, the kids and I are heading back to our old village to stay with a lovely friend of mine. Our boys were best buddies whilst I lived there and Jack is just as excited as I am to be going to stay with them. I have to say my lovely friend is someone who I miss terribly even though my life now in our new home is lovely. I think about her so often, and despite not ever having done anything particularly exciting with her, we just 'got' each other and she is a gem. So a night in her company will be just bliss.... (much like a precious night with you would be Char!!).
Tonight however has been about getting ready and also cooking up a fish pie for the latest fundraiser at school.. a cookbook. So I thought I would share the recipe with you too, I know I've given it to you already Charlotta but as I had to take pix for the book anyway I will show you all too! I hope you all have a lovely weekend too.
I don't really do weighing things but I have given rough amounts so if you like something put more of it in, if you don't like something, such as prawns or eggs leave them out! I have made this for 5/6 people.

Variety of fish some white, some pink, some smoked to fill most of your dish leaving room for mash on top - as you like eg 1 loin of salmon (or 2 salmon fillets), 1 large fillet haddock, 1 large fillet smoked haddock, 1 packet of prawns,
Eggs - 1 per person
Milk  - 400g
Bay leaf
Lemon juice
Butter 40g for sauce and some for the mash
Parsley 1 good handful
Cheddar cheese 300g (or less if you don't like cheese so much!)
White wine
Potatoes - approx 900g
Nutmeg
Salt and Pepper

Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees
Remove the skin off the fish and any bones, cut the fish into large bitesize lumps.

Poach the fish (Leaving out the prawns keep these till later as they don't take long to cook!) for about 5 minutes in milk or white wine seasoned with salt and pepper and a bay leaf, (about a cm in the bottom of the pan) until the fish is just cooked.
Strain the fish keeping the milk or wine, which you will add to make up to about 400g of milk in a jug to use in your sauce.
Place the fish into an ovenproof dish and check for any more bones if need be then squeeze lemon juice on to it.
Peel and boil enough potatoes to cover your dish nicely with Mashed potato.
Boil an egg per person, for this amount 5 eggs for about 3 minutes, it's nice if they are slightly soft still as they cook more in the oven.
Grate the cheddar cheese and put reserve for the sauce and topping.
Chop a good bunch of Parsley finely and reserve.

Make a cheese sauce by putting a good knob of butter in a saucepan and melting it (approx 40g). When it is melted gradually add a tablespoon or so of plain flour (approx 40g), stir this on a medium heat until the flour is cooked through, then slowly add the milk (including the milk or wine from the fish), continuously stirring, until you get a good smooth sauce. Add to this most of your grated cheese saving some for the top. and stir until it's melted. Finally add the chopped parsley and a good pinch of nutmeg and pour the sauce over the fish. Peel the eggs, and slice in half, place these yolk up on top of the fish and sauce slightly bedding them into the sauce. Put the prawns on top too.
Mash the potato with butter and milk, season and then spoon on top of the fish to make a nice thick layer making sure there are no gaps around the edge for the sauce to sneak through, roughly fork the top and sprinkle a layer of cheese on the top.

Cook in the oven for about 30 minutes or until nice and golden on the top and bubbling.
I have also made this with adding some cooked leeks to the sauce instead of the parsley which is tasty too!

Mmmmmm!
